A well motivated British English native translator with experience in technical and financial translations between English, French and Portuguese.

To whom it may concern,

This letter is written support of my application for the given translation post that you are offering. I am a native English speaker and have experienced many different types of Anglophone environments from differing areas of the United Kingdom (Wales, England and Scotland) as well as the wider Anglophone world, including United States of America, Canada, Singapore and South Africa. I feel that with this knowledge and expertise that I am a strong candidate as I have a significant amount of cultural understanding, not only to English of the United Kingdom, but also to that of differing regions of Canada and the United States. This, coupled with my degree in French with Translation studies is a solid foundation of understanding global languages on a local level, and appreciating the cultural differences between the French used in France, to that of Belgium or Tunisia. I feel this is also enhanced by the four years that I lived in Germany, giving me a communicable level of German as well as understanding the Germanic lifestyle of not only Germany, but Austria and Switzerland to name but a few places.

As part of my work history, I was employed by avarto, a company in the Bertelsmann group. During this period of 2014-2015 I worked with Microsoft Online Services, providing first line technical support in both English and French to users all over Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA) as Microsoft rolled out its new Windows for business packages.  Considering this, I have worked with Windows 10 and feel comfortable using this Operating System as well as others produced by Windows. Having also worked with Microsoft Dynamics, I feel I have a solid understanding of Windows tools and coupled with my knowledge of Excel VBA, I feel very confident of my computer based skills.  In my current role as a freelance translator I have been able to implement the fundamentals of project management. This has included time management, resource management, communication skills and self-discipline to work towards a strict and known deadline. I have found in myself a very strong work ethic and an ability to work well under pressure whilst delivering a world class product.

During the summer of 2016, I worked for British Airways hospitality team with Mixed Fleet. As with the nature of the airline and in line with their strict hospitality rules, I found that the attention to detail was incredibly important. These skills I was taught during my four years at Chepstow Racecourse, where in my capacity as a bar manager on race days, as well as a part of the cellar team on setup days, it was upon myself and my colleagues to maintain a high standard to all guests and for us to ensure the efficient running of all bars during the time in which we were racing. This was also a period in which I learnt the importance of written and oral communication – something that I have incorporated into my personal life, and I feel is very important when working to a deadline in a project, as this can allow great focus and greater productivity.
