PICKWICK's PLAN - A 5 STAR 2013 READERS FAVORITE INTERNATIONAL BOOK AWARDS CONTEST WINNER - The Author writes:
This book started out as a Bedtime story told by me to my little children around the year 1992-93 and remained in limbo until finally, I decided to retire very early from my profession as a senior bank officer to get these "Family Read Together" books published. It is my belief that the books will be loved for generations by young and old alike in many languages!.
Pickwick's Plan begins with a Little Pixie Town on the edge of the enchanted Great Booga Dooga Forest near the Great Booga Dooga Lake in the enchanted Booga Dooga Land and revolve around the life and adventures of one of the smallest Pixies, Pickwick. The story was told chapter by chapter to my little children and evolved in its telling - there was the magic of playing with the words of the English language, and the emergence of different beings who have made the book a unique "Family Read Together" experience. Every line is original and every episode opens out new vistas. All the delightful cover and illustrations have been hand painted by Julie Sneeden of South Africa who is an internationally famous artist. Just then, Pickwick had a great idea. At least he thought that it was a great idea, though I really don't think it was such a great idea after all.
All of you know what an idea is. At least, I hope you do, because I am not so sure that your mothers would have told you what an idea is, and where it comes from! But, just in case your mother has forgotten to tell you, I will tell you right away what an idea is.
An idea is a sudden thought that jumps into your head and makes you think something, or do something.
What most of the people do not know is where the ideas come from!!
I think I will let all of you know about a little secret, told to me by the Great Willy Nilly, who lives at the center of the Great Booga Dooga forest. He once told me that the ideas are sent flying in the wind by a naughty little creature called the IdeaRoolus Blick, who used to live in a cave in the Silver Mountains, on the northern side of the Great Booga Dooga forest.
Many, many years ago, the Idea Roolus Blick got tired of living in that cave. So he left the Silver Mountains in order to travel all over the world. And wherever he goes, he sends ideas flying through the air on the wind. And that is how ideas suddenly pop into the minds of people who come in the way of the ideas.
Since many of the ideas are rather silly, many people make silly mistakes because of some silly idea popping into their heads.
That very day (unluckily for Pickwick whose mother had never told him about the IdeaRoolus Blick) the IdeaRoolus Blick happened to be passing Pixie Town high above on his silvery wings.
Seeing Pickwick standing at the window and looking bored, the IdeaRoolus Blick sent an idea straight as an arrow at Pickwick.
You can be sure that it was a silly idea because the IdeaRoolus Blick was in a silly mood himself.

Young Angels a qualified translators goes beyond that 1% immeasurably because she adds to the talents of the writer who has written in the original English because besides her impeccable responses, willingness to query the author for the nuances he has instilled into the story, she walks side by side with the Author and adds value to the translation, which would otherwise never have happened if she had merely translated by rote. Author review: "Tales of the Booga Dooga Land - Pickwick's Plan" has been translated into Portuguese by Claudia Valeria Rodrigues Lima and she, though being new in the area of Translation as a professional, has shown such acumen and tremendous skill, that I, if it were possible, would award her an MA in Translation immediately. She is responsive, does not hesitate in asking questions which are relevant to the polishing of the translation, and is extremely responsive. She spares no effort to understand the 'ethos' of the story to ensure that the inner meanings behind the words used in the original English, are expressed in the same way in her translation. Well done Claudia - you are a rising star! |

Author review: Esther Muntaner Ferrer has been a delightful translator to work with. An MA in Translation, she has a wealth of experience and tremendous ability which enables her to understand the ethos of the story completely including the nuances between the lines and the word play used so that she completely narrates the essence of the story in her translations. Equally well versed in Spanish as well as English, she is extremely responsive and is quick to query any nuance of the story for translation. Where ever necessary she has retained the names as they are in the original, but where the context may change due to the change in language, she has always consulted the author and made the changes in names as discussed. An incredibly talented Translator from the beautiful Island of Majorica, she is a credit to the culture of her country. I strongly recommend her to anyone who had any kind of translation work from Spanish to English and vice versa. Well done Esther and I wish you the best in your life and work always Deepak Menon (Author of Pickwick's Plan) [email protected] www.lovelaughter.net |
