Hello,
My name is Barbara Maher and I am a freelance translator. I was born in Australia (fifth generation of Irish and European descent). Now resident in Melbourne, Australia, I lived in Italy for 27 years where I worked in several fields of business including the financial world, pharmaceutical industry, sales & marketing, chemical industry, and others. In these positions my first language was Italian and although English is my native tongue it became my second language in those years! I am perfectly bi-lingual.
I have lived in various parts of Australia, Malaysia, USA and Italy and have travelled extensively, all of which has endowed me with a broad understanding and appreciation of many cultures and social habits. For 24 years after returning from Italy I operated my own business of holiday villa rentals in Italy and France.
I also have years of experience as a radio announcer and TV presenter; and hold my qualification in translation (IT>EN>IT) from NAATI (National Australian Authority for Translators and Interpreters) gained over 20 years ago.

Since then, I have undertaken some very difficult and complicated translations; my proof-reading and redacting expertise is second to none. I am a proficient writer with an outstanding command of both languages, excellent grammar and spelling.
Over the years I have translated dozens of novels and many and varied works and documents. Most novels have been in the genres of fantasy, science fiction, mystery and romance for Italian authors who self-publish mainly on Amazon.

My personal interests include historical events, politics, architecture, music and literature. I am a good communicator, easy to work with, pro-active, flexible and communicative.
