Raised bilingual with German and Portuguese I always had a passion for languages. Latin, English and German were my favorite subjects in school and when it came to the question what I wanted to study at university I decided quickly that I wanted to study my mother's tongue Portuguese. I've always been proud of my ability to speak Portuguese and of having family in Brazil but as I just used the language in private communication I decided to study it in University to learn how to write and read properly in Portuguese and to learn more about my family's culture.
I enjoyed being a student at the University at Hamburg a lot, I loved every single course I did and made great friends for life. Besides linguistics of Portuguese I did studies of Latin America, where I learned a lot about the history, literature, economy, politics and culture in the different countries of Latin America what was a very interesting companion to my main studies.
After doing my bachelor's I didn't have the feeling yet that I was done with my student life so I started a Master's course in Multilingualism and Education what combined various aspects of linguistics with education in school, especially for students with different language backgrounds.
After graduating from University I moved from Hamburg to Norfolk in England, where I now work as a MFL teacher for German, Portuguese and Spanish at a secondary school. I feel grateful to be able to work with all the languages I love and to accompany children on their way of learning a new language is a great pleasure.
However, I don’t see my future in the classroom. As I have a huge passion for books of all genres, I am trying to get into working with translations, especially with literary translations from English into German, as German is my main language and I feel very safe in it. I'm still a newbie to this sector but very motivated and willing to take every opportunity I can to get into translation work.
I did my first steps working with subtitles, translating and proofreading from English into German and enjoyed that a lot. To come up with the perfect translation in German is an exciting challenge for me that I am willing to take in every future translation work.
My professional dream is to see my name as the translator of a book on it's cover and to make it possible for German booklovers like me to read many books in our beautiful language.
