Sample text:

It was late afternoon but the sky was so dark that it resembled the middle of the night. Remmy was sitting on her bed with a textbook in her hand but she kept on glancing out of the window. The rain was tapping against the glass and there was a certain calmness to its thudding that she knew was likely to soon intensify. A knock at the door caused her to look away from the rain-splattered window. ‘Come in,’ she croaked out. The door creaked open and a sheepish looking Sandy stepped into the room. ‘Hey,’ she gave a coy smile. ‘Hi,’ Remmy forced a smile back. She stopped breathing and glanced down at her bed cover. Sandy was as volatile as the storm and she was expecting her to start shouting. ‘The sky’s so dark, even with the lights on in my bedroom it still seems so gloomy,’ Sandy said. ‘Yeah, it is,’ Remmy muttered. Sandy walked over to Remmy’s bookshelf and began to move a finger along the spines of the books. Remmy looked at her with alert eyes, ready to react if Sandy did anything mean. Sandy moved her hand away from the books and turned and smiled at Remmy. ‘So, I was thinking,’ Sandy said, as she twisted a strand of her hair around her finger. ‘We should totally go for a run tomorrow along the boardwalk. I mean, as long as the storm has passed and all.’ There was an awkward silence as Remmy finally remembered to breathe again. She fiddled with her necklace and waited for Sandy to suddenly start laughing. Only the laughter never came. ‘So, what do you think?’ Sandy asked. ‘Erm, yeah,’ Remmy muttered out. ‘A run would be…nice.’ Remmy didn’t think she’d like running and she didn’t like Sandy but being put on the spot like that had made her panic. Besides, surely Sandy wasn’t all bad? She had to give her another chance, after all, they lived in the same house and went to the same school.
