Mexican Translator from English-Spanish and Spanish-English. Musician and Confectioner.

My name is Romina Lameda, I am 26 years old, and I am from Tijuana, Baja California, Mexico. In 2015 I got my Diploma in Translation from the Faculty of Languages at the Autonomous University of Baja California (UABC) and in August of 2019 I got my Degree in Translation (Licenciatura en Traducción) from the same University. My first language is Spanish, my second language is English, and I am learning French as my third language.

Since I was a kid, my parents instilled me to learn English. So, at a young age, I used to translate songs and stories as a hobby. That's when I decided to study the career, to learn the techniques for a good translation, studying it in other fields such as Legal, Commercial, Literary and Multimedia (or Audiovisual).

Translation is very important to me, for it is not only transmitting messages, but also other countries' culture. During the four years I studied in the career, I learned so many things about it. You cannot do literal translations; you need to know more than a second language to do a good translation. You need to know the culture, the context, and the idioms from different places, in order to understand the idea you want to transmit.

My experience in Literary Translation includes my classes in my career, where we translated poetry, many author's biographies and literary works; both from English to Spanish and Spanish to English. During my Professional Social Service at the Tijuana Cultural Center (CECUT), I translated poetry, biographies, literary works, and collaborated in the translation of the book ''Tijuana: Un Anecdotario Visual'', all from Spanish to English.
