GL-R has degrees in Electronic Engineering and Astronomy; and a postgraduate degree in Wine & Culture. He published two novelettes in Asimov's Brazilian edition: "Alienígenas Mitológicos" (science fiction) and "A Ética da Traição" (alternate history), the first narrative in this SF subgenre in Portuguese-speaking SF&F.

GL-R edited eight SF&F anthologies. He published nine short-story collections; two nonfiction books, Vita Vinum Est! História do Vinho no Mundo Romano and Cenários de História Alternativa; and the science fiction novels: Xochiquetzal: uma Princesa Asteca entre os Incas; A Guardiã da Memória (Argos Prize 2012); Aventuras do Vampiro de Palmares; Estranhos no Paraíso; Octopusgarden (Argos Prize 2018); Pecados Terrestres; Simbiontes; Germes Mortais; Consciências de Ébano; Uma Certa Capitã Rodriguez; Decisão em Capella; Palmares Solariana; Quando Deus Morreu; e Novas do Purgatório.

His favorite science fiction and fantasy authors are: Clifford D. Simak; Eleanor Arnason; Philip José Farmer; Robert Silverberg; David Brin; George R.R. Martin; Ted Chiang; and Harry Turtledove.
