“Trevor, what’s taking so long?” A rail-thin blond waltzed in, pulling her sunglasses off and resting them on top of her head. Two bodyguards kept people from approaching her. Ashleigh Mason. Another A-lister.
Olivia wanted to cheer. Her bakery would live off this day for months. Sales would skyrocket. She might even have to add seating outside. Everyone would want to eat at Constellations in the hopes of running into either of these two. She tapped her chin with one finger. All she had to do was get them to come back. And bring more of Hollywood’s elite.
“Almost done.” Trevor waved Ashleigh forward. “Is there anything, in particular, you want to try?”
The actress tilted her nose up. “You know I’m off carbs.” She refocused her gaze on Olivia, then leaned forward and said, “Hun, you should consider doing the same.”
Olivia’s mouth dropped open. Did Ashleigh Mason, America’s sweetheart, just call her fat? Sure, Olivia had gained a few pounds running the bakery, but she wasn’t unreasonably large by any rate. She thought she was normal, but standing so close to Ashleigh, she began to question that.
“Um,” Olivia’s gaze darted around. Half the bakery had heard the comment. Some laughed out loud, others covered their mouths with a hand or napkin.
Ashleigh waved her hand in the air and said even louder, “Guess it’s hard working around sugar all day. At least your livelihood doesn’t depend on your looks.”
A ball of lead sunk into the pit of Olivia’s stomach. It had been years since she’d visited home, but the starlet’s comment held the same barbed jab as the things Olivia’s sisters used to say to her. They’d perfected the art of making compliments hurt. The whole thing stunned Olivia into silence.
