A heart-wrenching tale of love and sacrifice.
CONDEMNED AS A WITCH.
WILL SHE FACE THE GALLOWS?
OR CAN SHE ESCAPE WITH THE WOMAN SHE LOVES?
Yorkshire, 1593. Mary Pannell, small-town herbalist, only ever wanted to help. She never meant for anyone to die. But still, they called her witch. She deserves to have her story told.
When Mary is arrested for witchcraft, she must do whatever it takes to survive. From medieval torture methods and plague-ridden London, to the ever-looming threat of being hanged - does she have the strength to endure it all?

‘The charge is that you did place a charm on Sir William Witham, of Ledston Hall, taking him to your bed, and that you did bewitch him to death.’
Mary stifled a sob.
‘No.’ Elizabeth shook her head. ‘No!’ Why was he saying these things? ‘You’ve got it wrong; Mary wouldn’t do this.’
‘I hereby place you under arrest. You shall be imprisoned and interrogated for up to three days, during which time we shall seek a confession and thereafter bring you to trial.’
Elizabeth turned around but Mary avoided eye contact. She couldn’t hold on any longer. She sobbed, tears streaming down her face. Elizabeth squeezed her hand. ‘Mary, tell them.’ She gritted her teeth, trying to stay calm. ‘Tell them they’ve got the wrong person. I know you didn’t do this.’
‘I’m sorry.’ She dug her fingernails into Elizabeth’s palms. ‘I didn’t think they’d find us here.’ Her sobs punctuated her words.
‘I’m innocent. I promise.’
Sir Henry nodded to two of his men, who approached Mary and grabbed her by the shoulders. They pulled her from Elizabeth’s side.
‘Stop!’ Elizabeth shouted. She elbowed the man next to her in the chest and he doubled over. ‘Let go of her.’
A man grabbed Elizabeth from behind and threw her to the ground.
Mary screamed. ‘Leave her alone, she has nothing to do with this!’
‘Mary? Mary!’ Elizabeth tried to stand up, but the man kept his foot firmly on her back, burying her face in the mud, and she couldn’t move. She couldn’t even see her as they dragged her away.
