I have been a historical novel enthusiast for as far as I can remember. As a boy I used to find comfort and entertainment in the novels of Alexandre Dumas, Michel Zevaco, Paul Féval, Théophile Gautier and many others. Of course, I also read translations from Walter Scott and more modern writers like Gary Jennings (Azteca, an amazing book).
With such a background, as soon as I learnt English at school, I tried and translate everything I could get my hands on. I also enjoyed French literature. Then, having decided to become a translator. I went to University in my hometown of Rennes (Brittany) and many years later I gained a Master's degree in translation at the university of Westminster..
Since, I have garnered a fair amount of experience in the field and have a proven track record in legal and human rights translations, mostly women's and workers rights in Asia and Africa. Furthermore, I have regularly contributed to one of London's largest translation agency. I have been contributing to the translation of historic articles for the World History Encyclopedia, gaining rapidly many thousands pageviews. Now in my mature years, and with a lot of experience, both in life and in translation, I am confident that if I find the right book (historical novel if possible) I will do a very good job of translating it. For all these reasons, I am quite sure I can provide a translation that will give the French reader all the entertainment the source language author intended.
For I think that, first and foremost, pleasure is the ultimate objective of any reader
