Born in Malegno in 1952, Pietro Giacomo Menolfi, abbreviated to Tiago with the Portuguese translation, has lived an adventurous life that has led him to explore different continents and cultures. From a young age, he showed a strong vocation for helping others, beginning his educational journey in a seminary in Brescia.
After graduating in Medicine in Milan in 1978, he practiced as a family doctor in Italy, developing a deep sensitivity and understanding of human nature. Restless and eager for discovery, in 1990 he embraced Africa.
Five years in Ghana, immersed in a stimulating and controversial environment, forged his character and ignited his literary vein. Among his achievements in Ghana was bringing medicine to thirty villages in the Volta region, reaching isolated populations in the savannah. A memorable feat was rescuing several girls and women from "bewitched" villages, dominated by witch doctors who exploited them for voodoo rituals. The book "Africa: Shattered Dream" is a lucid and passionate testimony of that experience, with its lights and shadows.
For another five years, he applied his experience in Zambia and Angola. In Zambia, he continued his projects in forest health centers, while in Angola he organized a hospital in the capital during the chaos of the civil war. With his passion and commitment, he challenged rampant corruption, even attracting a complaint to the criminal police. However, he did not give up and continued his work in favor of the weakest, ultimately winning his battle.
Back in Italy, he continued his medical career, always with an eye on the world. Initially, he worked as a family doctor in remote areas, then in a small town before facing new challenges: in the United Kingdom and Iceland, he utilized his professionalism and cosmopolitan spirit before finally hanging up his coat after forty years of practice.
Since 2017, he has resided in Portugal, in South Lisbon, where he continues to write and cultivate relationships with people from all backgrounds.
