Author review: Very disappointed with the first 10 pages, especially after such a professional exchange of emails and having read great reviews about this translator. The pages were translated literally word for word like a document, rather than a story. Very strange use of language at times, and it had no feeling to it. Lean arms were translated as skinny arms. Fat stomach was translated using the Dutch word for internal organ of the stomach. My name was spelt wrong, twice at the start of the document! In general it was a very rushed job. However, a lot of it was fine, borderline acceptable, but it would need a very good edit and polish had I gone ahead with the full translation. My advice to authors is, get someone with a good knowledge of the language to proof the translation before you go ahead and publish it. I believe this translator was having some personal problems at the time she took my project on, which could account for such a poor translation, but I still feel if you are a professional, you will always do a professional job! |
