I love books. As a German, I frequently read books translated from another language. As I grew up and started learning other languages, I found myself repeatedly frowning when reading a translated book: "Wait. That is not what it says in the original!" Sometimes it even annoys me when a translation is so obvious that I can literally translate it back to the original language. A book is something the reader should enjoy, become immersed in the story, invested in the characters. That is hard if the translation reads like a robot did a poor job!
And this is why I chose to become a translator. I have a talent for languages AND for storytelling. After finishing high school I studied three years at the Foreign Language Institute of the University Erlangen (languages: English and Spanish) to become a certified translator and interpreter. Since receiving my diploma, I've been doing freelance work, but I'm also riding a desk to help pay my bills. As a result, working with me could mean I have to ask for an extension, but I'm doing my best to honor our deadlines.
