Having worked as a professional freelance translator for the past few years, it is time to get started here on Babelcube! I am looking for the exactly the right type of book for me, and will provide an excellent translation from either French or Spanish into natural, American standard English.
I currently work for numerous translation agencies, mainly working on legal documents, official reports, technical documents and many more types of documents which I would prefer to replace with exciting, challenging novel translations. I have completed three prior novel translations: Through Songs of Love by Juan Ibáñez, a modern Spanish text dealing with relationships, Voyages in Kaleidoscope by Irène Hillele-Erlanger, an esoteric novel with a huge symbolic value, and Toxic by Stéphane Desienne, a series of sci-fi novellas set in a zombie apocalypse world invaded by aliens. I am looking to expand my experience in the domain of translating fiction, which as I have seen, is quite difficult, due to the different layers of symbolism, the ambiguity of language, and the subtleties of dialogue and inferred meaning. I will take the time necessary to do a close reading of the novel and to incorporate hidden meanings and foreshadowing into the translation. I would like to work on a translation in which I can communicate with the author to discuss these aspects of the translation, and to determine which aspects of the novel the author considers most important.
In addition, despite my particular interest in novels, I would also be interested in translating non-fiction in domains that interest me. These may include technology, the outdoors, classical music, science, diet, and other possibilities. I am able to translate subjects which are at times complex into precise yet clear and understandable English.
About me: I grew up in Canada, and upon finishing university (Bachelor of the Arts with a double major in French and Spanish from the University of British Columbia), I left to travel the world. I have seen many places, and in the end, ended up here in Mexico, where I currently live with my husband.
