Japanese, Spanish and French to English

I am a final year student of Linguistics with Japanese and Spanish at University College Cork, Ireland and an aspiring translator and interpreter. With my course, I have had the opportunity to translate a wide variety of texts between Japanese, Spanish and English. Through academic experience like this, including translation theory education, I have gained a good awareness of the important factors to keep in mind while translating. Now, through Babelcube, I want to put my language skills to work and gain some more experience.

During my year abroad in Tokyo, Japan, I undertook an internship with STH Japan - the official hospitality provider for the Rugby World Cup 2019 Japan. I had the resposibility of language support for non-Japanese speakers, giving me the opportunity to translate a wide variety of texts from Japanese to English and French - ranging from legal documents to restaurant menus. Through my hard work, enthusiasm and experiences in Japan, I feel very comfortable translating between Japanese and English.

I am also very passionate about Spanish and, in university, I have translated quite a lot of texts between Spanish and English. However, I would very much like the opportunity to gain experience in translating Spanish, seperate from my course.

Compared to Japanese and Spanish, my translating experience from French to English is few and far between. However, having spent over 8 years studying French, visiting France and indulging in French literature, I feel confident in my abilities to translate French texts. I am very passionate about French as it is the first language that I have been able to consider myself fluent, and I would take great pleasure in translating with it too.
