I am able to provide written translations of scientific, medical or technical writing, from French into English or Italian into English. My mother tongue is UK English but I have lived in France and spent considerable time in Italy. A former teacher (sciences and languages), I became a translator in order to make full use of my training in languages as well as my science background, since I am qualified to postgraduate level in both. I always aim to make a text read well in English and not seem like a translation at all, and I enjoy the challenge of solving this puzzle.
Books I have translated include "A Murderer's Enigma", by Claudio Ruggeri (Detective Fiction), and "My Cat Hates Schrödinger", by Luca Montemagno (Physics, non-fiction). I am currently working on the first book in a Science Fiction trilogy by Danilo Clementoni.
Other recent experience includes translating an academic research proposal into the effects of climate change on oceanic plankton, clinical trial reports for the pharmaceutical industry, articles for publication in scientific journals addressing the problem of trafficking of animals in southern Africa, specifications for contracts relating to research into genetic disorders, tourist information, websites for hotels and resorts, and files relating to medical equipment for the development of vaccines. I don't believe that rushing is an effective approach and will not promise to translate your book in a matter of days. But I do ensure accuracy and careful attention to detail, and I don't let people down by disappearing or missing deadlines. All my work is proofread by colleagues who are native speakers of my source language, and I research the context of the material to be translated before starting. I have great respect for the preferences of the author where a choice of words or expressions is concerned, and I like to remain in contact so that any questions of this nature can be answered.

My priority is for writers to be able to share their work with a wider audience, and it is rewarding when customers are pleased with my translation and have found it helpful. The monthly blog on my website is inspired by thoughts about languages, education and science. My two other passions are long-distance running and fundraising, and 2% of all my income goes to Médecins Sans Frontières. Please get in touch if you feel that I might be able to help.
