Translator and interpreter specializing in Literature. I have a Bachelor Degree in Modern Languages (Linguistics, Translation and Interpretation). With strong experience in technical fields covering but not limited to: Business, Finance, Medicine, Veterinary, Law, Social Sciences and Insurance. Well-read writer. With a strong background in technical translation, simultaneous live interpretation and customer relations.
I truly believe that we, literary translators, aren't just translators; we are gifted writers in our own right, and smugglers of meanings across languages. It's our job to fully convey the author’s words as reliably and authentically as possible. In all fronts, be it style, rhythm, feelings, all the way down to the smallest, most meticulous details. In an analogy of my own: if the author is the Rockstar, then we’d be their sound engineers.
Why were the French so obsessed with Edgar Allan Poe? Well, he had a great translator!
As an editor, the most precious feedback I’ve received from writers is that I offer insight that improves the work while remaining encouraging and never making it feel as though I’ve marred or lost the writer’s voice. That’s my raison d’être in working with you, the writer. Beyond that, give me a deadline, and I’m likely to come in ahead. Give me a style guide, and I will internalize it.
I look forward to working with you!

Author review: Mauricio is a real professional. Not only does he produce an accurate translation in a very short time, but that translation catches all the nuances in the author's original work and is accompanied by explanatory notes. I really hope he offers to translate more of my work. |
