Hello, my name is Marjolein Stuij and I am originally from the Netherlands. I am a cultural anthropologist with a master's degree in Latin American and Caribbean Studies and I have always loved languages.
In 2011 I emigrated to Colombia where I lived for 5 years and since 2016 I am living again on Dutch soil, but this time on the island of Curacao, in the Caribbean Sea, a multicultural environment where we hear and speak many languages every day - Dutch, English, Spanish and Papiamento are the languages most common used here.
I have worked as a teacher, tutor and coordinator at different language institutes and also give private lessons on demand. For more than 10 years I have done translations and (simultaneous) interpretations in Dutch, Spanish and English. My experiences with written translations are very diverse; from technical to mass media articles, and from company documents to governmental writings. Currently, I am participating in the translation of an autobiography from Spanish to Dutch and a project of translating songs from Spanish and English, also to Dutch. Besides, I have knowledge of French, German and Papiamento, and really enjoyed learning basic Colombian sign language when I was living there, so you can say languages in general are a passion for me!
As a translator and interpreter, I have proved to be driven, reliable and responsible, and I always have an eye for detail. I love to dig into the meaning of words, expressions and phrases to get the best translation on paper and I do not hesitate to correct myself until I am satisfied with the result.
For all these reasons, I feel very motivated to help you translate your book for you to reach a bigger audience; generally speaking, Dutch people read a lot of books in their lifetime and they really enjoy it, so it will be a good market to break into.
