My name is Irma Pérez González and as far back as I remember, I have always been a book lover. Since I was a little girl my two greatest passions have been reading and writing, and this devotion grew even stronger when I started learning new languages and discovering new cultures. From this combination (foreign languages and reading) came the determination of studying translation at university and my dream of becoming a literary translator was born.
Thus I studied Translation and Interpreting from 2007 to 2012 (a five-year degree) at the University of Vigo (Spain), about thirty minutes from my hometown, Redondela. I spent my Erasmus year in Glasgow (Scotland), where I had the opportunity to immerse myself in the culture and language of the country. From 2012 to 2013 I studied a Master's Degree in Teaching Training and I specialized in English teaching, another one of my lifetime vocations.
Since then, I've translated and subtitled two short films for the audiovisual students of the University of Vigo and, among other small assignments, I've worked as a volunteer translator for the ECOAR association in Vigo. At present, I'm working in Gijón (Asturias), as an English teacher and translator. I've been also writing short stories and I've won two literary awards, one in 2013 and another in 2014.
In short, I am a twenty-seven-year-old translator and teacher (or at least struggling to be one). I am a hard-working and dedicated person and I feel very passionate about my job (especially about teaching and translating). I enjoy team working and collaborating with other people, since I am an extroverted and easy-going person. My creativity and ingenuity are two of my greatest strengths, along with my capacity to adapt to new situations and my eagerness to learn. I am very interested in music, literature, cinema and art. I have a passion for learning languages, travelling and discovering new cultures.
