I am a passionate linguist and language connoisseur, particularly interested in African American English.
In 2019 I graduated with distinction from the University of Surrey (MA Translation) with a dissertation on AAE and my translation of an unpublished work by Zora Neale Hurston. I also hold an MA degree earned with honours in Language, Society and Communication (English, German) at the University of Bologna. My final dissertation included a translation proposal of the short story "Now You Cookin' With Gas" by Zora Neale Hurston. I hold a BA degree in Modern Languages and Literatures (English, Spanish, German) obtained at the University of Padua. My final thesis’ title was “Contemporary Temporary Art: The Case of The Fourth Plinth”.
I have attended several translation workshops held by internationally recognised translators such as Franca Cavagnoli and in 2016 and 2017 I took part in a translation summer school held at Castello Manservisi (Porretta Terme, BO) by Anna Rusconi. These experiences resulted in the E-book publication of two short stories which my group and I have translated from English into Italian during the summer schools ("Rifugio" by Nella Larsen, Ed. I Dragomanni; "Solchi leggeri lasciati dai denti" by Toni Jordan, Ed. I Dragomanni). I have translated 2 works of fiction with Babelcube (A boy named Stephany by C. Sean McGee and Life of a Bastard vol.1 by Damien Black).
I currently work as a freelance translator, collaborating with several agencies such as Global Lingo, STB, Language Line, Language Insights, etc.

Author review: As a writer, you are perpetually up in arms over translations. On one hand, it is fantastic having your story told in so many tongues; on the other, my neurosis goes wild never knowing the quality of the work and whether the translator has taken an artistic approach or merely strung together a few sentences. Working with Francesca alleviated close to if not all of my doubt. She asked the right questions and when given free reign to interpret the story how she felt (with her choice of words), she dived on the opportunity. This is the first of my translations that i was excited about. I have no idea what's inside and that's fine with me. I trust that Francesca was able to understand the story i told, and to tell it her way. For a neurotic weirdo like myself, this puts me at ease. I highly recommmend her and hope to work with her again. |
