Born in France into a Portuguese family, I made my way across the Channel 32 Christmases ago, the day after my baccalaureat results, and have been here, in the UK, ever since.
My life and career have seen many peaks and troughs, giving me tremendous experience in a cornucopia of fields, from working in a launderette to nursing, to teaching, to translating, raising two bilingual children, throughout studying in a non-traditional linear in a variety of fields.
My BA was mainly centred around English Literature and creative writing; it made me realize that translation is my strength and passion: hence, I have successfully completed an MA in translation whilst working as a Literacy Tutor in a secondary school and translating for TWB. My focus is on loyal literary translation from French into English. I do not use Google translate (or such-like), nor machine translation; if that is what you are looking for, please do not contact me.
My favourite genre is fiction: short story, fictional autobiography, historical fiction, contemporary, classic, magic realism...
My latest reads are Girl, Woman, Other by Bernadine Evaristo, L'Héritage de Gaïa by Didier Dorne, Half of a Yellow Sun by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, Est-ce que tu danses la nuit... by Christine Orban and Une famille by Pascale Kramer. I am currently reading The Slaves of Solitude by Patrick Hamilton.
