I grew up in Japan, but have lived in the U.S. for over 27 years. Consequently, I am fluent in both the Japanese and English languages.
I have the unique perspective to understand the nuances of both cultures.
I have read other English to Japanese, and also Japanese to English translations over the years and am keenly aware of what the phrase "lost in translation" refers to. Too many translators get hung up on word for word literal meanings and lose some of the authors original contextual intent and subtle inferences, that I believe are part of the mastery of storytelling. On many occasions I have found myself correcting the translation as I read.
I am mostly interested in translating children's fiction novels and nonfiction books.
