A good story is like a rich tapestry. Every thread weaves in the essence of humanness. No wonder then, that the human brain responds uniquely to stories.
I first encountered this magic as a child. I grew up on a rich staple of folklore, and epics. And in 2011, I was the storyteller instead or receiver for the first time. A group of friends and I were roaming around a trade fair and we came across a 5-year-old separated from her parents. It was 9 pm, late into the night. She was inconsolable, extremely terrified.
I was nervous, a 17-year-old myself. I had no idea how to pacify a five-year-old. But somewhere along the line, the little girl looked up. Her eyes gleaming under the stars and moonlight.
This was our cue and we started telling her stories. Stories about space, the stars and the moon. This calmed the little one - she stopped crying.
Eventually, we found her parents. The little girl went home with her parents, but that episode remained etched in my memory forever.
Since then I have been honing my skills as a storyteller. I am adept in English and Hindi. As a native Hindi speaker and with all my higher education in English, I'm equally comfortable in both languages. So let's join forces and make something magical together.
