When I woke, the sky was a bright blue, and I leaped out of bed to open the window and welcome the sunshine into the room. Casey, Brie and I, had another triple date planned. For me, though, this one was more special than any that had come before it. It was the day I’d vowed to ask Mike to be my boyfriend. After spending the night before, considering the best choice of words and how to phrase the question when I asked it, I finally felt prepared. It was all I could think about, and I had barely slept.
Even so, I didn’t feel tired. I had too much to look forward to. We’d arranged to meet the boys at the local theme park at around one o’clock in the afternoon. With the park open until ten at night, we had decided the afternoon and evening sessions would be the most fun. Although the wait was agonizing, I passed the morning trying to busy myself with tidying my room and tossing over suitable outfit options.
Recalling our last visit to that particular theme park, I remembered Meg had been staying with me and dominated Jake’s attention, ruining everything for Casey. This time around, there’d be no one to spoil the date for any of us. No Meg and no Alexa; just me, my twin, our best friend, Brie, and our boyfriends, hanging out on our own. I giggled at the term “boyfriend,” and pictured myself hand in hand with Mike as we wandered around the theme park together.
It was still early, but I started getting ready regardless, and as I pulled on my favorite black jeans, I thought again about asking the question foremost on my mind. Casey had suggested the Ferris wheel as the ideal location. With only two people per carriage, I’d have Mike to myself. Thinking about it caused nervous flutters to erupt inside me.
