It was the end of March and I was enormously pregnant and uncomfortable. I had the most intense craving for white bean and sausage soup with kale, which had caused this fit of temper. The kale was at the back of the raised bed. The last row before the fencing for the vining plants and my stomach was in the way of my reaching it.
I’m not sure how long I sat there before my temper began to cool. Suddenly, I realized what I had left behind in the garden, “Jeb will think it’s a crime scene. I hope we get there before he does,” I said to Hope and Gus.
