To Greg Barton this was his idea of heaven on his days off work. No other voices, nobody telling him what he should or should not be doing, no bother and no stress! Just the sound of his slow and rhythmic breathing. The sound made by the compressed air as he draws it into his lungs through the second stage of his demand valve, sounding very much like the eerie noise made famous by Darth Vader in those Star Wars films. Then comes the bubbling noise from the exhaust ports of the mouthpiece as he exhales after each breath. Each individual bubble expanding in size as it makes its way upwards, then dispersing as it meets the lesser ambient air pressure at the surface.
These are the only sounds that he enjoys hearing, when he wants to be alone.
This is the only place he wants to be, when he wants to be alone.
Genre: FICTION / Suspense
Good at time of publication gradually dwindling to slow. A good time to enhance sales by translating my book to hopefully expose it to a greater audience.
‘Bad luck Jimmy my friend,’ said Bulofski, after blowing another cloud of blue smoke into the already stiflingly smoke clouded room, then reaching over and dragging the mountain of money from the middle of the table towards him.
‘You…you’re a cheat!’ Jimmy blurted at Bulofski. ‘You couldn’t possibly…you just couldn’t!’
‘Jimmy, Jimmy…you my friend, but no call me cheat okay? You go now, have drink at bar on me, then go home okay?’
‘No, you’re a cheating bastard Bulofski and you know it!’
Bulofski glanced at his henchman by the door who promptly came across and took Jimmy by the arm, easing him out of his chair, and then he escorted him out through the door, but still protesting.
Bulofski looked across and saw Greg standing in the shadows of the dimly lit room, and as he casually stacked the money into a neat pile in front of him he said, ‘Ah Gregor my friend you have come to join us; it seems like Jimmy has no luck tonight. Maybe you have better time…come sit, we start new game now.’
