My mother, her sisters and offspring are known as Nereids, or sea nymphs. Most of them live in the ocean, but some, like my mother and a few others, choose to live in the forest. My name is Eunice.
Every fifty years my Nereid family has to sacrifice a nineteen – year old princess to Lamia, the child-eating demon. Unfortunately for me, the fifty-year pact is this year, and I am the only princess who is going to be the required age soon.
Will handsome-brave Khasius from Helios help me escape my fate? Or will Lamia claim him as well.
Every fifty years my Nereid family has to sacrifice a princess to Lamia, the child-eating demon.
However, the princess has to be nineteen years old at the time of her sacrifice. No one knows why Lamia wants a teenager if she only eats small children.
The way the princess is chosen is by electing the girl who is going to be the right age one or two months before the first day of winter.
My family made a horrible pact with Lamia many centuries ago to stop her from eating their children.
When time comes for the sacrifice, the chosen Nereid is taken inside a cave named Hell’s Mouth.
She is left there with chains on her arms and legs just in case she tries to escape.
When my cousins or parents go inside the cave the next day, their beloved teen Nereid is always gone without a trace.
I am Eunice, daughter of one of Nereus and Doris’s fifty Nereid daughters named Galatea.
