Officer Gavin Ross stepped into the hotel lobby, his eyes scanning the area with a practised intensity.  As he approached the reception desk, the friendly receptionist greeted him.

"Can I help you, sir?"

"I'm Gavin Ross, investigating a missing person's case." Officer Ross flashed his badge, his expression serious. He handed her a picture of Lucas. The receptionist's expression shifted from curiosity to concern, her brow furrowing.

"Yes, I recognize him. He checked in last night."

"Alone?" Officer Ross asked, his left eyebrow twitching slightly.

"Yes, sir. He specifically requested a 'Do Not Disturb' sign and asked not to be disturbed."

"When exactly did he check in?" Officer Ross pulled out his notebook, his pen poised.

"Around 10 pm, yesterday. 24 hours is approaching, and we expect him to check out soon."

"We received a complaint from his relatives a few days ago. He was reported missing."

"I hadn't heard... and didn’t notice it in the newspaper." Karen's eyes widened, her voice barely above a whisper. Officer Ross's grim expression softened slightly.

"It was a small article. Page three."

As he pocketed his notebook, Officer Ross's gaze drifted to Karen's name tag.

"Thank you, Karen."

"Is everything okay? He's staying in one of our more isolated rooms, 314. It's at the end of the hall." Karen's smile faltered.

"We're still investigating. Can you tell me if anyone has reported anything unusual?"

"No, sir. But... Well, the room is quite far from the elevator. We don't get much foot traffic there."
