L’Imam di Torino - The Imam Identity
Many lives are interconnected in the development of this contemporary tale.
The main protagonist is of Norwegian origin grown up in the Vesteralen islands, 300 km north of the Arctic Circle. He will later end brightly his university studies in USA and be chosen by the CIA between the best of its course. He begins his apprenticeship at Langley and subsequently start as a secret agent in the Soviet Union. Afterward he will be located in Israel in a mission of coordinating secret services between CIA and Mossad.
An additional leading role is linked with Middle East. One of the few Jewish families living in Bagdad had to suddenly leave the country for the murder of the head of household massacred by religious thugs. His son, a 14-year-old boy, swears that he will devote his life to take revenge of his father death. He will first end his studies in Israel, then join the Army and finally become a member of Mossad.
Other roles in the story imply various secret services in Europe mainly Sismi in Italy and BND in Germany. They are both alarmed by the clandestine trip of a Saudi Arabian Banker on his way from North to South Europe collecting money on account of Al Qaeda.
Conclusively the chronicle of an imam, born in Iran but grown up in a madrassa school in Afghanistan who took over the legal responsibility of a mosque in Turin, in the north of Italy.
The Mossad starts investigations in Italy fearing that in the Turin mosque the Imam is recruiting suicide bombers to be sent to Israel. The European secret services hunting the Saudi Arabian banker are trying to reconstruct Al Qaeda links in Europe before capturing him.
The two stories are independent one from the other but will end up as a single dramatic event.

La maggior parte delle famiglie americane della base entravano in crisi dopo pochi mesi dall’arrivo nella base di Andoya. I mariti erano impegnati, con turni massacranti, spesso di ventiquattro ore continuate. Rientrati alle loro case erano stanchi e l’unico desiderio era di riposare e dormire.
La base ospitava una flotta di aerei Orion P3 da ricognizione. Quattro motori a elica e forme aerodinamiche particolari. L’interno di ogni aereo era un concentrato di tecnologia di ultima generazione. Unico scopo della base era la caccia ai sottomarini, alle navi, ai pescherecci russi che transitavano dall’oceano artico, partendo dalle basi di Murmansk e Arhangel’sk, al mare di Norvegia dirette nell’oceano atlantico.
Nulla doveva passare per quei mari senza che la Nato e l’America ne fossero informati in tempo reale. Gli aerei volavano con qualsiasi tempo e nelle condizioni più avverse. I piloti e tutti gli operatori radar e i tecnici elettronici che lavoravano a bordo, dovevano necessariamente possedere resistenza fisica, coraggio e capacità di sopportazione. Le condizioni meteo erano, soprattutto d’inverno, spesso proibitive. Specialmente fra i piloti era di fatto necessario un continuo avvicendamento.
L’unico svago per le mogli era la crescita dei figli. Alcune coppie non ne avevano ed erano fra le prime a entrare in crisi.
Il paese copriva un’area piuttosto estesa, con case molto tipiche, colorate di toni sgargianti, dall’azzurro, al giallo, al verde.
