Over the years I have listened to the argument for and against the payment of tithe by Christians. Some believed it is an Old Testament practice. They claimed the New Testament books and its writers did not really put lots of emphasis on its relevance. Some of these anti-tithe payment crusaders have also spoken against the practice where many churches now put their main attention on the accumulation of more money and tithe at the expense of the spiritual development of their church members. They believe the proliferation of churches today is as a result of the many benefits and gains from the 'enforcement' by church leaders on their members to bring their tithes and offerings to the church. The anti-tithe payment crusaders have also argued that Jesus in Luke 18:12 and the writer of the book of Hebrews only mentioned the practice of tithing without giving specific commandments that Christians should pay tithe or not. The pro-tithe payment campaigners on the other hand, claimed that the payment is both an Old Testament and a New Testament practice citing the mention given to the topic by the writer of the book of Hebrews when he wrote about Levi paying tithe.
