I chose to describe "I Swear It Happened Just Like This" as the kind of book that beats staring out the window... if words expire and you don't know what else to talk about.
The book will keep you company wherever you go, and could even be a talking point with others if you decide to narrate it reveals people's behavior in different situations.

Years ago, I attended a funeral service of an industry colleague’s husband. While in the same car as the widow, another passenger, a woman, cracked a joke about something.
The widow’s reply left me wondering for years if she knew what she said or was it lost in translation within the Singapore context. I didn’t dare ask, but her exact words were, “Oh, please let me play the role of the grieving wife.”
I just kept looking out the car window throughout the journey. Brain freeze.
