A few days after we heard about Grigore, Tristan went bear hunting by himself. I was at home reading a book when Borna, one of our vampire friends, came over to tell me something that would change my happy life forever.
A wooden stake through the heart turned Tristan into ashes.
According to Borna, another vampire friend was hunting close to where Tristan was.
He saw Grigore the vampire hunter take a red locket in the shape of a heart after he killed him. It was the locket I gave him as a wedding present, which contained both of our pictures. The hunter was too busy looking at it and did not acknowledge the other vampire presence.
The only witness to Grigore’s slaying was able to escape unharmed to warn other vampires.
Tristan had a reputation of being a good fighter and news of his death created fear among the vampire community. A lot of them decided to relocate far away from Sirdal until the vampire hunter was killed or gone.
I was in shock and denial sitting in my living room when Silver Fox came over to say how sorry he was about Tristan’s slaying.
