Discovering Her Heart: Kristen by River Ford

A book boyfriend is all you need, right?

Discovering her heart: kristen

Kristen Parker's imagination has always been bigger than reality. She prefers to spend her time with the characters in her head. And dating? Who needs a boyfriend when you've got Captain Deke Wolfe? Unfortunately, writer's block is sinking its claws into her well-structured life. Her agent thinks a month-long getaway to a mountain resort might solve Kristen's problems.

Brett Stone adores his aunt, even though she lives in New York City instead of the hills of Tennessee. That's why he's willing to bend over backward to provide the perfect holiday for her bestselling author. He has no idea how one woman will tie him in knots. It starts the first moment they meet, and she calls him Deke.

Will Kristen be able to separate her thoughts about this handsome resort owner from her book boyfriend Deke Wolfe?

Sample text:

“You can’t keep the publisher waiting, Kristen,” Sylvia Stone stated firmly but in her kind manner. The woman may have been in her sixties, but she was as sharp and professional as any of the younger, hungrier agents. However, age and experience allowed her to drag her authors to the finish line. “People are anxious to see how Captain Wolfe escapes. Tell me what you need.”

“I don’t know.” Kristen rested her head in her hands.

At the end of her last bestseller, she’d left poor Deke Wolfe trapped in the alien’s virtual reality. His crew was counting on him to help them escape, but Kristen didn’t know how to get him out of the predicament. Every scene she wrote felt flat and purposeless, throwing her into a bad case of writing insecurity.

“I can’t concentrate on anything,” she continued. “Every time I sit to write, I end up wandering around the apartment. Maybe I’m stuck in someone’s VR and they’ve turned it off?” She tried to smile and failed. “I want to write. The ideas are floating in there somewhere,” she tapped her forehead, “I just can’t put them on the page.”

Sylvia sat beside her and patted her back. “When was the last time you got away? Did something for yourself?”

“All I do is sit at home and write.” Kristen jumped up and paced the length of her designer living room, tripping on the edge of the rug.

“Careful,” Sylvia smiled.

“Stupid feet. Anyway, why would I need to get away? I have everything I need here.” Kristen waved around the apartment while trying to hide her shudder. The space wasn’t really her style.
