Siddhartha always wondered what life outside the palace was like. He never had any reason to leave because the king spoiled him with material things and everything else he could want. Siddhartha even married a beautiful woman by the name of Yasodhara on his 16th birthday and stayed with her in the palace for the next 13 years. It was when he was 29-years-old that he finally wanted to see what life was like in the outside world. When he journeyed away from the palace, he ended up meeting four men on his journey. He met an old man, a sick man, and a dead man. It was at this point that he realized there was a lot of suffering out in the world and that other people’s lives were not as lavish and luxurious as the one he had been living. This made him feel bad, so he then went on wondering what he could do to help fix this problem. One day he found his answer when he met a monk who happened to be wandering by. The monk told Siddhartha that he gave up all his possessions in order to go on a journey to end the suffering in the world. This intrigued him, and so he decided to follow this very same path in his own life.
