Broken For The Promise by Chasity Strawder

Chasity takes a trip down memory lane, recalling the hardships she endured after learning she was pregnant with her second son, Joshua.

Broken for the promise

In early 2010 after a heartbreaking miscarriage, I found out I was pregnant once again. My joy was short lived due to a diagnosis of gastroparesis. Soon after the news, this medical dilemma forced my husband and I into a financial hardship that led to our homelessness.

This book is a depiction of my struggles to maintain my faith in God and the survival for my life and that of my unborn baby.

Introduction

I met my husband, Terrence while I was an elementary school teacher in Ann Arbor, Michigan. He worked part time at a gas station around the corner from the school. I stopped there in the mornings for coffee, and soon we became acquainted with each other. I was a year shy of turning thirty years old. We dated for about a year before Terrence finally proposed. After our marriage, four years later, I discovered that I was pregnant. Things were going well until I started bleeding one day. This resulted in a visit to the emergency room where we were told that the heartbeat could not be detected. My hormonal levels continued to drop, and I eventually miscarried.

I soon became pregnant again a few weeks later with our youngest son Joshua. It was indeed the most difficult journey of my human experience due to a diagnosis of gastro paresis. I had no understanding as to why or how I acquired this deadly disease, but I was in for the fight of my life. I spent the duration of the pregnancy in the emergency room, or being admitted as a patient into the hospital. No medication that was prescribed lessened the symptoms, and there were no words that could ease the pain.
