Blood lust blonde

Jane Butterworth doesn’t believe in normal, but then she used to be a vampire, and she works at a paranormal investigation agency. Oh, and she’s a boy.

When a name from her past suddenly surfaces, Jane knows that she is the only one that could solve the case. With the detectives unavailable and a tearfully desperate client, there is no choice but to pretend she knows what she is doing and answer the cry for help, but is she really dressed for fighting vampires?

Her client has a time-sensitive problem – she was bitten by a vampire last night and swears she can feel her canines growing. With no time to lose and a boyfriend at home making dinner, Jane begins a race against time to save the client and stop the transformation, but does the client even know what she wants?

Cross-dressing isn’t always glamorous.

Sample text:

I had been making notes on a pad, wondering what Tempest or Amanda would do in such a circumstance, but when she said his name I laughed and had to quickly suppress it. This was going to be easier than I thought, and I was the only one from the firm that could provide the simple solution I was about to.

Yeah! Go, Jane!

I stood and put my things back into my bag. ‘I need you to come with me.’

Annabelle was staring at me now, her eyes as wide as saucers. ‘What’s wrong with your voice?’

Oops

I had forgotten to do girl voice, addressing her for the first time in my usual bass-baritone. I hadn't even noticed that I had done it, swept up in the excitement of solving my first case. Annabelle had though. She was poised to run away, eyes darting around the room for an exit.

I had no choice but to come clean, ‘There is nothing wrong with my voice, Annabelle. I'm a man.'

Impossibly her eyes got even wider. ‘But. But, you're a girl.' she stammered.

Poised to get up myself, I relaxed back into the couch and allowed my shoulders to slump. Having deceived her, I wanted to make her believe that what I told her next was the truth. ‘I prefer to think of myself as gender-neutral actually. I live with a boy and I dress according to my mood each day. My friends accept me as either Jane or James depending on what I am wearing. The girl voice is something new that I am trying out.’

Her face had softened as the panic subsided. Okay, so I am a man beneath the cute dress and boots, but I am still quite small when compared to most men and not exactly threatening. Thinking that though, I realised I must still be six inches taller than Annabelle and at least twenty-five percent heavier.
