This story takes Melville’s ‘Bartleby the Scrivener’ and mashes it up with high school football to make a looney story of a player getting on the coach’s last nerve. If you played high school football (or any sport) you will love this story.

Pregame Announcements: Grubman’s Confession
“I’m Mr. Grubman… and I’ll be announcing today, jus’ as I do every time these Friday night lights come on at Pequod Stadium. This is mainly because the jerks at ASPN didn’t hire me! And that’s even after I tried bribing them! Oh-well. Enough about me. Today is our beloved Melville Whales verses one of our long standing rivals the Killimore Thugs! OOPS! I mean the Killimore Meat Grinders.”
Coach Law Reflection I
I have been coaching for multiple decades. I’ve won the state championship. I’ve lost every game in a season. I’ve had players who’ve gone on to play in every division of college. I even coached two players who have made it into the pros. I’ve coached players who’ve become teachers, doctors, and lawyers. I have even coached players who’ve joined the police force and coached the players whom those cops had to throw in jail. Yet in all my years, one player stands out as the strangest. He was Bartleby.
__________
“This is Mr. Grubman. I’m making it a point to state my name as often as possible. I’m hoping that Dox Sports recruits me! Now this is going to be a tough one for our beloved Whales. Going into the game our Whales have a record of 4-4. Our rivals, the Meat Grinders are undefeated this year with an 8-0 record. They have already clinched the top seed of the playoff spot as they attempt going all the way to state.
