Sample text:

Davis lowered the spyglass and noticed Roberts. "Decided to join us, have you?"

"Consider me an observer."

"Observe away." Davis handed the spyglass to Roberts.

Roberts took the device and gazed through it. He watched the crew of the Royal James working tirelessly to move the ship faster. They moved the Royal James in line with the French ship to steal the wind from its sails. Roberts also noticed men at the bow, and what he thought were cannons.

Explosions erupted from the bow of the Royal James, followed by smoke, and after a few seconds several splashes.

"A warning shot, like before," Davis explained. "If today is a good day, they will also surrender."

Roberts stopped looking through the spyglass for a moment and peered over to Davis. "I would pray for your success, but you said there is no place for God here." Roberts chuckled at his own joke.

Davis chuckled as well. "I don't think God would take pleasure in you praying for us."

"If I cannot pray for sinners, then who am I to pray for?"

"Good point," Davis replied.

"Besides, I think God would appreciate it if there was no bloodshed." Roberts looked through the spyglass again, this time at the French ship. He noticed something about the crew's actions, the way they were moving across the deck. "They're going to turn the ship," he declared, handing the spyglass back to Davis.

"Who?"

"The ship you're chasing. They seem to be trimming the sails quite a bit, but not furling them completely. We're with the wind, so the best bet I would give is that they're preparing to turn and don't want to lose momentum. They're trimming the sails in advance so it's easier to pull them all the way up in a moment."
