Though I do not have a degree in translation, I do have a Master's degree in Germanic Studies, and my interest in and practice of translation came about as a by-product of pursuing this degree.
I have an approximate 8 months experience over the past 3 years translating German to English. The translation projects I have engaged in thus far have mostly been non-literary in scope, namely the transcription and translation of various letters written in the old German script (Kurrentschrift). These projects included dealing with outdated terminology or phrasing as well as many interesting orthographical variations in the source language.
Regarding something more in the field of literature, I have lso translated about 100 pages of printed letters by a Swiss-German scientist aboard the 19th-century Challenger expedition. Part travel narrative, part scientific report, this project required periodical research into nautical and scientific terminology as well as English and German conventions regarding Latin nomenclature.
I am particularly interested in translation of non-fiction works on historical topics, however, I would be happy to work on any content and any wishes of prospective clients. I strive to provide the most accurate and well-researched product as such service iss both rewarding and required.
