Hi! My name is Rosana Esquinas and I hold a BA in Translation and Interpreting of English and German in the University of Alicante (Spain), as well as a MA in Editorial Translation. At the moment I'm also a PhD candidate at the University of Murcia, Spain.
The University of Alicante has published my final research project which is a comparative analysis about the translations of Edgar Allan Poe into Spanish. For this analysis I carried on a research on the field of literary translation. This research was about how depending on the target reader the key characteristics of the original text can be found in the translation. Thus, I chosed a translation made by the well-known writer Julio Cortázar who had adults as target readers, whereas the second translation was made by Santoyo and Broncano having young readers as target readers. During this project I analysed the use vocabulary, repetitions, footnotes and illustrations and their role in the Spanish translations.
As I'm passionate about literature and translation I took the subjects of literary translation offered by my university. Moreover, I took a course about literary translation offered by the enterprise Cálamo&Cran and attended the III Translation Summer School that took place in the University of Astorga in León (Spain) focused on literary and audiovisual translation.
At the moment I live in Spain but have spent the last year of university in Ireland with an Erasmus scholarship. Now I work as freelance translator in Spain [EN,DE >ES] [ES>EN], as well as I teach Spanish to foreign people and English in a private academy.
I'm passionate about translation, culture and I can define my self as a bookworm. My working languages in literaty translation are EN>ES. As a translator I consider that you never stop learning, that's why I'm always improving my professional services and profile as literary translator.
