My love for the English language turned me into a translator more than a decade ago. I was born in Brazil and started learning English quite early in life. I studied at different schools but finally started learning the language after a period in London. Experiencing life in another country was the best way to learn a second language.
In my early twenties, I worked for the first time as a translator, when the company I worked for merged with an American company. My boss had zero English knowledge, so I was the one responsible for translating all company reports into English.
Some time later, I started a Biology course. As an undergraduate student, I worked as an interpreter in a resort, in a summer job position as a biologist guide. During my time in the Academia, which included a Msc. in Ecology, I used to give English lessons at private ESL schools to make a living.
Then I got married, became a mother, and started a family business in the translation area. For more than eight years, I have been working with scientific translations, mostly in the areas of zoology, biology, ecology, and botany. Most of my job comprise technical texts, but now and again I also translate texts from other areas, such as music festival reports and short tales.
I have a great interest in translating books and see this as a wonderful opportunity to start. My interest is not restricted to technical books. I am an eager reader of novels, so translating a book that I like is a dream job.
