I am a new comer in the translation arena. But I am bilingual since young and that was a long time ago. :)
I don't think doing translation is easy because to do a good piece, one has to understand the original text thoroughly, and then reproduce the translation in his/her own words in the target language. Otherwise, the translated version will be awkard, and not interesting to the readers.
My primary and secondary educations were all conducted in Chinese, except of course for the languages. During those years, I witnessed the introduction of simplified Chinese. Hence I am of the generation that knows both tranditional and simplified Chinese. And as my kids grew up in Singapore, I had to learn Han Yu Pin Yin to keep up with them as well.
I did my A levels, Bachelor and Master degrees in the United Kingdom. I specialise in Electronic Engineering, specifically in the Integrated Circuit Design (Semiconductor).
