As mentioned my passion is reading in English and Afrikaans and I would so love to bring this passion to every reader. To be able to talk with my Afrikaans friends about the very same book I've read in English would be amazing and that is why I would love the opportunity to translate English to Afrikaans and then Afrikaans to English. My love of books started in primary school, by the time I was in standard 5 I had read most of the books in our school library and that is when my late Ouma (Grandmother) took me to the library for the first time. As you can imagine I was in my element. The very first day I took out two books and then three days later, you guessed it, I was back, handing them in and I took out 4 books which I returned about five days later.
I am thrilled that there are books that you can read on your cell phone or laptop or kindle because I now get through one book a day if not two days. This you can imagine would end up costing me a fortune and so I am relieved and oh so grateful for the internet. But, I would now love to be able to assist an Author in getting their book translated from English to Afrikaans and Afrikaans to English, I think to feel even more part of their creativity and knowing that I could possibly make a difference in their life or maybe even accomplish a goal that they have set for themselves in having their book translated into either Afrikaans or into English.
I have only now thought of doing this as a way to help others (being the Authors) and then to help myself in a way to make an income on the side. Things are really tough for everyone in the world and I have been trying to find out how to take something I love to do and turn it into an opportunity to help others and to earn an income for myself. A gentleman and I were chatting yesterday and he mentioned Babelcube to me and I had said to him that I had been thinking of doing this but had no idea where to even look because there is just too much information out there on the internet that I found confusing and then I had just given up on this idea I had. I am truly grateful that we met yesterday and here I am today applying as a translator on Babelcube to hopefully kickstart myself on a wonderful and fulfilling journey at the age of 47.
I am a single mother of two children of which one is still in school and have not been able to find stable work since a very bad accident I had in 2019. Going out to find employment has been a struggle for me due to the injuries I sustained and so working from home is the only option I have to earn an income. and I believe with my heart and everything in me that this gentleman was sent my way to speak to me about this wonderful opportunity.
I have tried to keep myself busy and alive by trying my hand at transcribing, data capturing, cooking, and researching. To keep my mind busy I entertain myself by reading as much as possible on a daily basis because that is exactly what I love to do.
