Maria Kampouraki was born and raised in Heraklion Crete Greece. At the age of 13 she acquired her Certificate of Proficiency in English (ECPE). Later on, she studied Sociology at the University of Crete in Rethymno. Having aways liked the idea of living and working abroad, she grasped the opportunity and moved to Glasgow in 2016, where she worked in various positions.
After completing 3 years there, she decided it was time to move on, this time to Germany. There, she was given the chance to become an English tutor in a local elementary school. This opportunity made her realise how much she appreciates engaging with languages and sparked her further interest.
Soon after, she engaged in the translation of the crime/romance novels “To Kill or to Love” (Part 1) and “To Kill or to Love” (Part 2) by Alexa Merian from Greek into English, which was published in April 2021. Her next project was the book “How to think” by Brahma Kumari Pari and was published in August 2021.
Language is a very important aspect of one's life and without it, communication is not possible. Passion for languages is a key when it comes to translation; being able to sense all the things that are not expressed with words and identifying what it is that the author is trying to convey, are a few things that fuel her passion for Greek and English language respectively. Time management and responsibility are taken highly into account when a deadline needs to be met.
Having lived and worked in three different countries so far, the translator’s cultural awareness reflects in her ability and goal to transfer the exact meaning of the source language successfully, taking into consideration the culture of the reader receiving the final text.
Through this website, she is looking for linguistic "food" to translate in either her mother tongue, Greek, or English.
