I am a 38-year-old Brazilian translator and conference interpreter. I have a Bachelor's Degree in Translation (University of Brasilia - UnB), a Master's Degree in Translation Studies (Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro - PUC), and a Master's Degree in Translation and Intercultural Studies (Universitat Rovira i Virgili, Tarragona, Spain).
I have lived in the US as a foreign exchange student for my senior year in High School. I had learned English before, in Brazil, but living there really made the difference. This experience was a watershed event in my life. After a year abroad I was able to look at my own culture and language through different eyes and I can never be grateful enough to all those who made it possible for me.
I have worked as a translator and Conference Interpreter since 2001, but in the recent years I haven't translated texts as much because I have lost interest in translating boring technical stuff. So yesterday I was talking to a friend about it, saying that I would love to translate texts again, but only if I could choose what I'd translate. She said: "Look for an editor or publishing house and find books of your interest". Serendipity! The following day (Today!) I run into Babelcube! I do believe if you really wish something, and it is meant to be, it comes to you. Voilá!
I translate from English into Portuguese and I am interested in translating novels, short stories, books related to art, literature, psychology, philosophy and permaculture. I would also love to try translating children's books.
I do write my own stuff as well. I write since I was little and decided I would be writer when I was eight years old. I haven't published anything of my own so far, but I have my blog (in Portuguese) and I am taking a Creative Writing Workshop that lasts for a year. Our task is to write one new text per week. It has been a very interesting challenge and also a chance to be peer reviewed.
As a conference interpreter I have had the chance to interpret in so many different fields and topics that I truly owe this profession the expansion of my horizons.
Other than this, I am the mother os the cutest one-year-old girl, married to an orchestra percussionist, have two cats and am a pathological traveller.

Author review: Marcelle is really pleasant to work with. I was happy with the way she met all the agreed deadlines. |
