Languages carried my studies and my young life for so many years. English and German are my main languages and even though I failed at Latin, it eventually paned out to be useful as I decided to study Spanish up to three years in high school and successfully took my oral exam for the baccalauréat. Other than that, I decided to learn a bit of japanese and decided to study it at the university in which I obtained a master degree in legal and economic translation in English and German. However, my German went on to be a bit rusty over the last few years and so far I am not feeling confident enough to propose German as a service when it comes to professional translation tasks.
My main focus over the last years and thoughout my university was the translation field and therefore, I joined many translation services of companies dealing with legal, administrative, and even technical as well as medical documents of public and private nature. However, even though my main course of studies prepared myself for these professional tasks, I ended up feeling unsuitable to this particular field of activity because of a pure conflict of interest as far as my personal tastes are concerned.
Therefore, my plan is now to investigate what I would refer as my "roots" and take the risk to translate documents which are far more ingrained with litterature and a lot less with figures and economic as well as legal and technical components. Looking back at the past, I realize I chose this whole course of study because high school career counselors pretty much told me that translation in the field of litterature was a dead end.
In my last translation tasks, I also realized that I preferred to deal with documents that were promoting brand (historical and present success) and dealing with archaeologic discoveries (fantasy beliefs of mythological creatures from ancient civlization) and spoke of known people in relation to their favorite brands such as Porsche (in which I for example translated documents talking about the success of the brand in different competition events).
In short I would define my tastes as follow: books who deal with a bit of economic, legal and techincal components without going too much into details; books in relation with sports because I like competition and normally watch soccer, american football as well as baseball; and books who deal with archaeology and ancient civilization with a little twist of fantasy because I like sci-fi and adventures.
