Hello! My name is Francisca, and I am a Portuguese freelance translator who's always open to new experiences and personal and professional betterment. I specialized in Sciences of Education, reinforcing my ever-underlying urge to learn something new as often as possible.
I have 2 years of Translation and Transcription experience working at a cultural association alongside artists, curators and cultural agents with a wide variety of origins, languages and work fields and idiosyncrasies. As Cultural Mediator, a core part of my job was making sure all the projects' meanings and interpretations, as well as the artist or cultural agent behind it, had the space to express their ideas and inspirations with a clear and accurate reading. Consequently, translation processes were crucial in each stage: guided tours, information sheets, work descriptions, and reports.
I have always been very fond of books. Turning pages, being struck by sequences of words that I had never read before and having to stop to assimilate (and bookmark) them, the distinct smell of a new or a second-hand book, and the power it always had of making me feel unstoppable.
As a Freelance Translator, a new book is not only a new (and so thrilling) adventure but is now an automatic thought of "how would I translate this?". So why not try to answer it in an actual practical way for a change?
