Ciao!
My name is Enrico and I was born in Rome, Italy. Since birth, I was exposed to different cultures and languages because my mother is Peruvian. I grew up speaking Italian at school, listening to my mum singing Latin-American songs while doing the house chores, and writing music and songs in English. When I was 16, I moved to Sydney, Australia by myself to study there for a year. It was a life-changing experience. It was the first time in my life where I had to sink or swim. And I swam, and immersed myself in a different language and a different culture once again. It may seem like a perfect life so far, but there were many lonely days in which I holed up and read and played music because I didn’t have anyone to talk to. But from that loneliness, I gained skills. I learned how to play the guitar, and I refined my English vocabulary by reading book after book and trying to implement the new words I found in my conversations.
When I finished high School in Rome, I decided to move to Glasgow, Scotland, to attend university. Since then I graduated in Audio Engineering and I’m now working as a freelance musician and translator/transcriber.
It only struck me relatively late (how many things do we take for granted?), that for me to enjoy a book in a language I don’t speak, there had to be someone who translated the whole book, page by page, from the original language into one that I could read and appreciate. And it made me feel almost guilty that I never appreciated or acknowledged the hard work of a translator before.
So here I am now, looking for a book to translate from English to Italian. I have done a number of translations since I started as a freelancer, but translating books has always been what I really wanted to translate.
I hope to hear from you soon,
Thanks for taking the time to read this.
Best regards,
Enrico Michelotto
