Hello, my name is Edwardo L Mota, I own a small home based translation office in Kansas City, Missouri. I was born and spent half my life in Chicago and basically and more importantly where my translation career began. As a child I loved being involved with everything my parents needed, especially communicating with the landlord or reading through just about everything like bills, documents, doctor visits and real time interpreting with tax preparers and almost every person they came across. My parents are originally from Mexico. I learned very early in life Spanish, through my home and school, afterwards I learned English. Im sure everyone can relate when I say as a child I was very curious and nosy, ha-ha. I loved translating for my neighbors and parents because I enjoyed knowing about adult business. As I grew, my love for helping anyone and everyone grew as well, I never thought of it as a job, I understood the importance of communication between folks who can't express themselves in either English or Spanish. My translation and interpretation skills elevated as my knowledge widened in both languages, which came in handy as my family made the transition from Chicago to Kansas City, In every position I've ever held my main focus is and always has been my linguistic abilities. Being bilingual has always served a purpose in my life, from translating company literature and explaining to customers and fellow coworkers of any products, services and policies in place. Kansas City is a city that is growing steadily with many opportunities, especially in the labor workforce. After high school I joined the local Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and many skills I hold dear today I gained through the chambers help. I was very intrigued with their way of business, total and complete help directed towards the community from small business start-up workshops to community outreach programs. In Latinos of Tomorrow, I started as a volunteer, climbed the ladder into the leadership council and became a leader within the community, the group and within myself, I started as Vice-president of the organization for one full term, then voted into the President position for 2 consecutive terms. I continued my love for translation through the years after the LOT's (Latinos of Tomorrow), and to this day I am very involved with my community. After many struggles in life my knowledge of language has always been a positive contributing factor. Translation became a more real and life changing outlet as I my work experience and joined an Immigration attorney office. In the years at this firm, I began translating all types of legal documents and paperwork from Spanish to English and vice-versa. Interpreting between clients and the attorneys during consultations, before or after Immigration Court. I currently work with a few nonprofit organzations to help with either translation or interpretation. My office deals with translation of a variety of documents, personal reference letters, FOIA investigation letters, and more. I also will be attending Maple Woods College this fall for a degree in interpreting to extend and gain certification in order to interpret in different enviroments such as immigration interviews, medical and federal court cases. A new addition to my life has little to do with translations but I have been accepted by an organization called Canine Companions for Independence, I was awarded a puppy to raise for 18 months at which point I will deliver the pup to the main center in Ohio and they will work with the puppy and a child or adult with a dissabilty to help them both graduate so they both go home together for a brighter future. I love helping folks and this gives me the rewarding feeling that my hand is there every day helping that individual have fuller life.
