Rookie translator looking to combine my passions for literature and the French language to break into translation.

I am a graduate in French with more than thirty years of experience in a job I hate.  I am looking for opportunities to do something I love instead, even if it is only as a sideline.  I regularly read books, stories, newspapers and magazines in French to keep my language skills up to date, and am also an aspiring writer, so believe I am capable of writing clearly in English, as well as being able to find le mot juste when required.

I have no direct experience in translation, beyond academic study, but don't let that put you off.  I am a mature individual who will respect the writer's craft and not waste an author's time by doing a half-hearted job.  I am happy to work collaboratively with the author or another translator to ensure that progress is made at a mutually-convenient pace and that the expected quality of the translation is maintained.

So, if you've read this far, you may be the right person to give this rookie the chance to get into the world of translation.  Go on, what do you have to lose?
